Revival of Love: Psonnets and Other Poems of Life, Love, and the Lord

Psonnets of Romance
Seventy Times Seven

How many times, my love, must I repent?
till seven times? I have exacted debt,
a debt of love, when I have sinned. And yet
when I approach, my heart and garments rent,
till seventy times seven sorrows spent
in godly sorrow rather than regret,
I wonder oft aloud why God would let
me take His daughter's hand? What has He meant?
This mystery I soon may understand
because our Father's chastening shall thresh
iniquity from me till I shall stand
and, nourishing and cherishing my flesh,
shall take, as Christ shall take His Church, your hand
and sanctify my vows to you afresh.
