In your own strength, O man, what can you do?
Delight yourself in God. Why should you fret?
But pray her eyes as jewels are fitly set
on seeking God instead of seeking you.
Unfaithful men are many, faithful few,
so place your faith in God, and then forget
she is someone you meet or may have met,
and so you shall be faithful to her, too.
But when the Lord has willed your eyes to shift
in faith, and she shall stand within your sight,
then raise her up in thanksgiving, and lift
up holy hands to hold her in the light
so you may know how precious is your gift,
and every way you turn her eyes is right.
